'Conversations' Connects Languages of Art, Science LA Artists Team With Museum Curators for Exhibition Set to Open February 20th WHAT: The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County will present "Conversations," an exhibition that pairs museum curators with contemporary artists to take a fresh look at the museum's rich collections. Visitors will view original works of art in a variety of media created by six prominent contemporary artists and inspired by the museum's collections. The exhibit explores the "Conversations" between these artists and scientists, illuminating the spirit of discovery the artifacts inspire creatively and scientifically. WHO: The artists featured in "Conversations" at the Natural History Museum include Kim Abeles, Lita Albuquerque, Tony Berlant, Paul McCarthy, Ed Moses and John Valadez. PRINTS: Self-Help Graphics & Art, an LA-based visual arts center, will publish a suite of silk screens by five of the exhibition artists that complement the exhibit and that will be displayed at the Museum. The silk screens will be previewed during an evening celebration of the exhibit, "Art & Sol," scheduled for February 4th. The special edition prints are available for purchase through the Museum. EVENING PROGRAMS: As part of the museum's ongoing monthly live programming, FIRST FRIDAYS, three evening events with related music, spoken word and dance will bring "Conversations" to life. FIRST FRIDAYS will be held February 4th, March 4th and April 1st. Open to the public, tickets to these events include admission to see the exhibit. Museum member preview days are Friday, February 18th and Saturday, February 19th. The exhibition is set to close in June 2005.
