Aura's LibertyLink Wireless Digital Audio Chip Now Sampling

Aura's LibertyLink Wireless Digital Audio Chip Now Sampling Next-Generation, Near Field Communication Product Brings High-Fidelity To Portable Electronics WILMINGTON, Mass., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Aura(R) Communications Technology, Inc. -- the leader in magnetic communication for wireless transmission of music, voice and data -- today announced first samples of its LibertyLink(R) LL888 system-on-chip for enabling high-quality wireless voice and stereo audio. The LL888 provides wireless stereo headphone capability for MP3 players, portable DVD players and audio-capable mobile phones -- virtually any portable product where digital audio performance must be coupled with long battery life and low cost. The LL888 was the technology behind the CES 2005 product preview by Creative Technology Ltd., the worldwide leader in digital entertainment products, with its wirelessly enabled Zen Micro(R) MP3 player. The wireless technology from Aura is also the ideal complement to the Zen Micro Photo, which won the Best of CES, Audio to Go category award. The combination of Creative's products and Aura's technology achieved acclaim from a wide range of press and customers at CES 2005. Representing the next-generation of Aura Communications LibertyLink(R) products, the LL888 uses a patented form of near field magnetic communication rather than conventional radio frequency technology (such as Bluetooth(R)) to enable digital audio wireless performance. Unlike Bluetooth, which radiates in the crowded frequency band at 2.4 GHz, Aura's technology is inherently private and secure -- and by operating at 13.5 MHz, it completely avoids the interference of the 2.4 GHz band. LibertyLink LL888 is currently scheduled for production quantity availability by the second quarter of 2005, with pricing set on an individual customer basis, but expected to be under $5 in OEM quantities. Designed to offer a high-fidelity solution for the unique challenges of wireless stereo, LibertyLink enables significant advantages over competing RF (radio frequency) based solutions for manufacturers of portable electronic products. These include: * Minimal audio lag, enabling the LL888 to be used for desktop and portable DVD applications with synchronized audio and video * Extended battery life, providing up to 30 hours of continuous playtime from a single AAA battery * Simplicity of use, starting with ease of product manufacturing and ending with an exceptional customer experience "The response from our customers to the first shipments of the LL888 System Development Kit has been wonderful," said Kip Kokinakis, chief executive officer of Aura. "Audio quality, price and performance are all a great fit for portable audio players and we are looking forward to building upon the exciting customer announcements made at CES 2005." The LibertyLink LL888 sampling will be provided through Aura's System Development Kit, which allows manufacturers to easily evaluate the chip and its wireless streaming stereo capabilities for use in their current and future product designs.
