Today's Grammy Announcements Missing Jewish Music Artists; New Teen Pop Culture Magazine Debuts for Hanukkah BOSTON, Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- With the announcement today of the nominations for the 47th Annual GRAMMY(R) Awards, a new national teen magazine debuts for Hanukkah calling on the Recording Academy to end its perceived discrimination against Jewish music artists and create a Jewish Music Grammy. Avril Lavigne's guitarist Evan Taubenfeld is the cover boy for a new pop culture print magazine for Jewish teens that is an outgrowth of the popular JVibe.com webzine. Riffing about his Bar Mitzvah and life on the road with his friend Avril, the exclusive Tauberfeld interview appears along with the JVibe Magazine challenge and petition to the Recording Academy to finally establish a Jewish music category along with the existing half dozen Christian Music Grammy Awards. "It took 15 years for the newly-created Hawaiian Music Award to be established," observes JVibe publisher Yossi Abramowitz. "There will be a Jewish Grammy in 15 months." Adds JVibe senior editor Josh Eagle: "Jewish hip-hop and rock has hit a new high. It is going to be uncomfortable to try to justify to legions of Jewish teens and others why a new Grammy would not be established." The nominations for the 47th Grammy Awards are being announced today in Los Angeles, and the first night of Hanukkah begins at sundown today. JVibe editor is Michelle Cove, a former senior editor at Girls' Life and co-author of national bestseller I'm Not Mad, I Just Hate You!, a new understanding of mother-daughter conflict published by Viking. "Teens are not going to see in JVibe hollow articles about beauty and make-up," says Cove. "JVibe is about their lives and conflicts with a fun Jewish twist that is not preachy and definitely not their parents' Judaism. We are going to be taking risks." Subscriptions and sample copies can be ordered only from JVibe.com, where extra features are posted, such as "Are the Red Sox modern day Macabees?" Synagogues and youth groups welcome for special deals. Backed by venture philanthropy from the Los Angeles Jewish Venture Philanthropy Fund and the Richard and Rhoda Goldman Fund, with underwriting from the Harold Ginspoon Foundation and the Caplan Family Foundation, JVibe is published by the independent and award-winning Jewish Family & Life! (JFLmedia.com), the leading Jewish multimedia enterprise that also publishes BabagaNewz, Sh'ma, JBooks.com, SocialAction.com, JewishSports.com and half a dozen other creative educational initiatives. JVibe.com was established with the generous support of the Andrea and Charles Bronfman Philanthropies. The Bronfman family has been intimately involved in the music industry through Polygram and Warner Music. Source: Jewish Family & Life!
