SLS International Introduces the PS8R Powered Nearfield Monitor System

SLS International Introduces the PS8R Powered Nearfield Monitor System New System First to Incorporate Cutting-Edge Evenstar Technology SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Nov. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SLS International, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: SITI) announced today the newest addition to its popular Studio Reference Series, the PS8R. Incorporating the new Evenstar(TM) Sigma-Delta digital amplifier technology, the PS8R offers studios the legendary S8R ribbon equipped reference monitor as a standalone, bi-amplified near-field critical listening monitor system. SLS recently acquired the patented digital amplification technology that provides cost savings in the manufacturing process of up to 75% below other designs, while producing comparable quality to what is available on the market today. The new digital amplification technology offers superior weight savings and effective cooling that exceed the latest technologies being produced by the industry leaders. "Our engineering staff at SLS has used its experience with fixed-carrier digital amplifiers and modern digital converter technologies to produce the amplifier section of the PS8R," stated Jeff Lowry, director of marketing for SLS. "The utilization of this advanced amplifier technology, combined with the highly desirable sound of the original S8R, that is being used by Sony/ Philips engineering for the development of SACD technology and NBC for the QC of the Olympic Broadcasts, has produced a real advancement in near-field monitor technology and sound accuracy. Due to the effectiveness of the Evenstar amplifier technology, we can produce these speakers at a fraction of the cost of our competitors. We believe that the PS8R will have a significant impact on this segment of the industry." The Evenstar Sigma-Delta digital amplifier in the PS8R has been customized and matched to power the S8R drivers to give them exceptional headroom, damping and uniform response. The unique amplifier topology lowers distortion (both harmonic and inter-modulated), increases bandwidth and improves noise performance over traditional amplifier technologies. The amplifier maintains high efficiency as well as being compact, lightweight and low heat producing. Two robust power supplies were incorporated to minimize crosstalk and deliver clean power for both high-frequency and low-frequency amplifiers. Additionally, a balanced receiver and a two-channel active crossover was custom designed and matched to the S8R acoustic performance to allow extremely flat response and accurate time-alignment, yielding a frequency response of 44-20,000 Hz +/-2db. The low frequency amplifier delivers 180Wrms of output power to the 8" woofer, while the high frequency amplifier yields 40Wrms to drive the PRD500 5" Ribbon Driver. Maximum SPL is 110dB at 1m. A dispersion angle of 120 degrees Horizontal / 30 degrees Vertical allows for a smooth, wide-area listening zone. The PS8R also incorporates a 3rd order sub-sonic filter to reject extreme low-frequency energy and a selectable 2nd order 80Hz high pass filter for the low-frequency channel when using the PS8R with an additional subwoofer. Balanced inputs with adjustable sensitivity help maximize signal transfer, while the LED status indicator shows operational status for power, protect, peak and standby at a glance. The enclosure area is 19" (48.3cm) high by 10.5" (26.7cm) wide, by 12.375" (31.4cm) deep. About SLS International, Inc.: Based in Springfield, Mo., SLS International, Inc. is a 28-year-old manufacturer and developer of new patent-pending ultra-high fidelity ribbon driver loudspeakers and sound systems for the commercial, home entertainment, professional and music markets. SLS has perfected the ribbon-driver technology enabling their loudspeakers to achieve exceptional inner detail and accuracy with 20 to 30 percent less the distortion of typical compression driver and dome tweeters. SLS speakers and systems are used in high profile venues such as NBC/MSNBC's 2002 Olympics studios in Salt Lake City and 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece -- NBC is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Electric; MSNBC is jointly owned by GE and Microsoft Corporation -- the Recording Academy's Grammy Producers SoundTable events, and for the NAMM winter show, providing sound in the AVID Technology booth.
