Academy Award(R)-Winning Editor and Sound Re-Recording Mixer, Walter Murch, to Keynote Digital Video Expo West in Los Angeles Keynote Part of Week-Long Events at Los Angeles Convention Center, December 5 - 11 SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- CMP Media's Digital Video Group today announced that world-renowned film editor Walter Murch will present a keynote address Thursday, December 9 at 6:00 pm as part of its 8th annual Digital Video Expo West conference and exhibition. Running at the Los Angeles Convention Center from December 5 - 10, Digital Video Expo has become one of the West Coast's most important conferences and exhibitions to provide information on cutting-edge tools, techniques and technologies to the professional digital video community. "We're proud that Mr. Murch is headlining our keynote presentation at Digital Video Expo West," said Colin Zink, Show Director. "His vast experience throughout his illustrious career will create an entertaining and educational evening, giving our attendees unparalleled insight into the art of film editing." A nine-time nominee, and three-time Academy Award-winner, Murch won an Oscar for best sound on "Apocalypse Now" (1979); won unprecedented double Oscars for sound mixing and film editing for "The English Patient" (1996); and earned a double British Academy Award for film editing and sound mix on "The Conversation" (1974). Along with George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola, Murch was a founding member of northern California cinema, and one of the few universally acknowledged masters in his field. Additionally, Murch started editing and re-recording sound with Francis Ford Coppola's "The Rain People" (1969), and edited sound and re-recorded sound on "American Graffiti" (1973) and "The Godfather Part II" (1974). For his work on the film "Apocalypse Now," Murch coined the term "Sound Designer," and along with colleagues such as Ben Burtt, helped to elevate the art and impact of film sound to a new level.
