Along with George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola, Murch was a founding member of northern California cinema, and one of the few universally acknowledged masters in his field. Additionally, Murch started editing and re-recording sound with Francis Ford Coppola's "The Rain People" (1969), and edited sound and re-recorded sound on "American Graffiti" (1973) and "The Godfather Part II" (1974).
